Councillors voted unanimously to allow Rugby Borough Football club to hold car boot sales on their Kilsby Lane grounds during the off-season.

The proposal came before Rugby Borough Council's planning committee last night, April 28, and the decision means that the club has been given permission to hold the car boots for two years.

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Cranham said: "I shall support the application. I think it's worth giving them a try. It's for a temporary consent and if it doesn't work then it can be reviewed."

He proposed that the application be approved, and Cllr Garcia seconded.

Cllr Garcia said: "I agree with Cllr Cranham, it's a temporary consent just for the two years.

"Personally I think this is what all clubs are going to have to be doing to try to generate a bit of extra revenue - and good on them for having a bash, I think."

All councillors on the committee then voted in favour of the plans.

The car boots will include a maximum of 30 stalls and will be held on Sundays from 9am to 1pm, with 80 parking spaces for visitors made available by the club.

An original proposal submitted by the club would have seen the car boots held for 28 days between March and September.

But concerns over disruption to neighbouring properties saw council officers recommend that the proposal be reduced to 14 days between May and September - outside of football season.

To further reduce disruption, stall holders will be asked to set up at 8.30am and leave by 2.30pm. Marshalls will also be on the site from 9am to 1pm.
