The key to economic growth – here in Warwickshire, across the region and, indeed, the country – is for more businesses to be started and for established companies to grow and expand their workforce.

That can mean growing your domestic client base or – something which I have talked about a great deal before – looking overseas to find new markets.

On June 7, the Chamber is holding its second annual business and trade expo at Mallory Court hotel in Harbury Lane, near Leamington, and that will give an insight into both domestic and overseas trade.

The fact that all 60 trade stands were sold more than a month before the event highlights to me that businesses across the region are seeing the need now, more than ever, to make sure they are out there, networking and promoting themselves.

For companies who wish to attend, the event is free so I would advise as many businesses as possible to go along on the day – network with other companies and also find out as much as they can.

As well as the exhibitors, there will be expert seminars on social media and international trade (with Mick Page who heads international trade at the Chamber) – again two major elements that businesses of all sizes and sectors should be making the most of.

Last year’s event attracted more than 200 businesses and we are hopeful that it can be surpassed this year as more and more companies realise the benefit to this type of expo.

The Chamber does run a host of events throughout the year to bring businesses together in this way and networking, promoting yourself and simply making yourself known to others in the business community is a great way of growing.

You might not win a new client the first time you go to an event or, indeed, the second, third or fourth time.

But what you do is establish yourself in people’s thoughts so when they need someone in your industry, you will be the name that leaps out.

So I hope to see some new faces at the expo on June 7 as well as familiar companies who regularly make the most of the Chamber’s events.

Now could be the time to start thinking about growth and the Chamber is an ideal place to start.
