Ashlawn School, which prides itself on providing an outstanding and enriched learning experience for every student, will be opening its doors on Thursday, 28 November.

The path to a bright future started at Ashlawn for the 2019 alumni – this September former students have gone on to some of the UK’s top universities, from reading French and Italian at Oxford and natural sciences at Cambridge to studying maths at Loughborough and medicine at Nottingham.

The school was rated outstanding in every category by Ofsted inspectors on their last visit, and the sixth form offers its students a flexible curriculum that covers A-level and BTEC qualifications. This includes three or four subjects plus an enrichment qualification, which includes Duke of Edinburgh and World Challenge activities, student council, Young Enterprise Scheme and volunteering opportunities.

As well as academic success, the impressive pastoral care helps to set Ashlawn apart: the team there give students constant academic and wellbeing support, while lessons encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning and boost critical thinking skills.

“At Ashlawn, we are proud to offer an enriched learning experience for every one of our students – alongside a wide range of academic and vocational subjects, we focus on student wellbeing, supporting young people to not only be successful in their studies but to become well-rounded individuals,” said principal Siobhan Evans.

The sixth form – praised by Ofsted for helping pupils “develop the confidence needed to be successful in the future” – offers courses run by specialised teachers to help everyone reach their full potential, whether that’s the opportunity to go to university, achieving a higher level apprenticeship or moving into paid work.

Careers information, advice and guidance is also an important part of the school’s offer. This includes tailored work experience for Year 12 students, special events focussing on different career paths and advice and support during the UCAS and apprenticeship application process. Students are also encouraged to take on a variety of student leadership opportunities and to participate in the World Challenge activities offered.

And it clearly pays off for former students like Rajbir Sandhu, who gained an A* in Punjabi and 3 As in Biology, French and Chemistry. This year he is currently working as a maths and English tutor as well as volunteering in hospitals and care homes before beginning a degree in medicine in 2020.

“The teachers at Ashlawn have always been there for me, I’ve had such a good experience here and can’t thank everyone enough for the constant help and support,” Rajbir says.

Find out more at the open evening, which takes place from 6 to 8pm at Ashlawn School in Ashlawn Road, Hillmorton, when future students will be able to meet the staff and students and see the sixth form centre for themselves.

The deadline for applications for sixth form places at Ashlawn School is midnight on Friday , 17 January 2020, with interviews being held in early 2020. Online applications are currently open.
