Transplant week at Warwick Hospital promotes life-saving donations

ORGAN donation was promoted at Warwick Hospital by an expert in the field during National Transplant Week.

Ann-Marie Hill, who works as a specialist nurse in organ donation for South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Warwick Hospital, and George Eliot NHS Trust in Nuneaton, visited both establishments to encourage people to consider joining the organ donor registry.

Every year, 1,000 people die while waiting for an organ and many more lose their lives while waiting to get on the transplant list.

The organ donation registry is a confidential, computerised database and everyone irrespective of age or health and who is considered legally competent can join and specify their donation preferences.

Ms Hill said: “Organ donation is important more than ever now and I encourage anyone who isn’t already signed up to the register to consider it – you could save someone’s life.”

Transplant Week has now ended but the campaign is on going. To sign up to the registry or find out more, call 0300 123 23 23 or go online.
