I thought the artist’s sketch from our 1919 paper might be an interesting one to print, especially for anyone who has lived in one of these houses.

The story was revealing plans for the Rugby housing scheme on the Whinfield Estate, Clifton Road and says it consisted of 76 residential cottages, of which the picture represents a pair.

It goes on to detail every aspect of the homes, from the small entrance porch which leads on to a living room 15ft 6in x12ft, which it says will be fitted with a cooking range and dresser.

The scullery is 12ft 1inx 8ft 6in and from this doors lead into the pantry (5ft x3ft) and the back entrance lobby.

The scullery will be fitted with a gas copper deep white sink, with hot and cold water supply and draining board.

From the back lobby entrance is obtained to the coals and wc, without any necessity of going outside the building. Rain water tanks will be provided.

On the first floor are three bedrooms, linen cupboard and the bathroom will have a hot and cold water supply.

The plans and sketch were prepared by the Surveyor Mr JH Sharp .
