THE Warwickshire branch of the Art Fund will be visiting Princethorpe College to see its Victorian Gothic architecture.
The magnificent tower and church of Our Lady of the Angels, designed by Peter Paul Pugin and completed in 1901, will be the focus of the visit. The guided tour by former deputy head Margaret-Louise O’Keeffe will also include the old church, with its ornate ceiling and stained glass, once used by the benedictine nuns who purchased the land in the 1830s and now the college library.
The later church, a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic with superb stained glass, statuary and some original church furniture, boasts a magnificent Pugin canopy over the high altar.
The visit is between 10am to noon at the college on February 24, followed by a pub lunch.
Anyone wishing to go on the visit should contact David Page on 01564 773825.
