Big names in line-up for festival

A top crime writer will be one of the big names in the writing world to descend on the area for the Warwick Words festival next month.

James Ellroy is a best-selling American crime writer and is hosting an evening at Warwick Words and people will be able to hear him talk about his gritty, noir style of writing and his upcoming memoir ‘The Hilliker Curse’ on Saturday October 9 at 8pm in the Bridge House Theatre.

His bestselling books include LA Confidential, The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere and White Jazz.

Festival executive director Helen Meeke is thrilled to welcome the controversial novelist and said: “It shows how seriously publishers take Warwick Words. Warwick district has a lot of book lovers which means that our diverse programme draws a lot of local interest. James Ellroy, however, will bring in visitors from further afield as this is only one of two chances they will have this year of meeting him.”

Another big name recruited to this years festival is acclaimed children’s writer Dame Jacqueline Wilson who is appearing on the same day at the festival.

She has sold over 27 million copies of her books in the UK alone, and she will be talking of how she first got started as a writer and about her upcoming book ‘The Longest Whale Song’. She is appearing in the Guy Nelson Hall in Warwick School at 3pm.

Mixing up the lineup with some comedy is humane atheist Robin Ince who claims he has a deep love for very bad literature, which forms his ‘Bad Book Club’ show.

The star of Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks will appear at the Bridge House Theatre at 8pm on October 2.

The festival kicks off on October 1 and lasts for ten days, and other guests include Sarah Dunant, Prue Leith, Peter Hain and Dame Stella Rimington to name a few,

There will be talks, workshops, poetry tea rooms and various other activities for children and adults.
