Motor museum hosts Monte Carlo day

Motorsport enthusiasts in Warwickshire can see cars from a century of the world’s most famous rally tomorrow (Saturday).

The British Motor Corporation’s works Austin Mini Cooper S from the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally will be the centrepiece of an open day for the Historic Rally Car Register at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon.

The register’s president Paddy Hopkirk, who drove a Mini-Cooper 33 EJB to win the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, will also be attending the event.

The HRCR Club was set up for those interested in historic rallying - specifically cars that were rallied from the 1950s through to the 1980s.

From 9.30am to 4.30pm, visitors to the event will be able to see a number of former Monte Carlo cars and meet rally organisers, club shop and specialist suppliers and organising clubs.

Entry to the HRCR Open Day is free and visitors can get into the motor centre’s museum - which includes the three Monte Carlo-winning Minis from the 1960s as well as other classic British cars, for the discounted rate of £6 per person.
