The Government has decided that in future the lists of casualties shall give no particulars either of the theatre of war in which the casualty had occurred or the battalion to which the men belonged. The decision has been arrived at in the public interest and is a matter of military necessity. It is requested that the particulars above referred to may not be mentioned or published in obituary notices sent to newspapers by relatives or friends.

Plans for Rugby’s £500,000 swimming baths and sports centre at Thornfield extension have been delayed by the credit squeeze.
A letter from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government says that but for the national economy circular the council’s plans for the centre would have been approved. There are restrictions on capital expenditure at present.
The Parks, Cemeteries and Baths committee reported that 9,167 people had visited the Regent Street baths in February.

West Indies test cricketer Alvin Kallicharan, 42, will be playing and coaching for Rugby Cricket Club this summer. The former Warwickshire star guested for the side in 1987 but his latest career move should be a more permanent arrangement. He will be made Director of Coaching, setting up a series of courses for youngsters in the town, as well as aiding the fortunes of the 1st XI. Club chairman and secretary Ian Barrie said they were delighted to secure the services of such an acclaimed batsman.
