Looking Back: August 16 editon

n At first glance I thought we’d printed this Rugby Lions picture before, because I recognised former Lions’ president John Llewellyn in the back row.

But this one is in fact a couple of seasons later than the 1947-48 team we ran at the beginning of March.

This photograph belongs to Eifion Lewis, who is 89 now, and is the young player sitting crossed legged on the left of the picture.

The 1949-50 team lined up in front of the pavilion at Webb Ellis Road.

The back row (from left) were Sid Gibson, Frederick Press, WM Baldon, Stan Robinson, H Harrison, John Llewellyn, A Tait, Michael McCrum (who was headmaster at Eton), M Deacon, GS Worral and D Bulmer.

Seated were RS Bevin, G Hagget, RE Turnbull, David Rathbone, David Stovell and H Morgan.

On the front were Eifion Lewis and JT Galbraith.
