n NO WONDER these anglers from September 1965 are looking happy.
They had just won the biggest trophy in the angling calendar, the National Federation of Anglers All England Championship.
They were the Rugby Federation of Anglers and they fished on the Huntspill River and King’s Sedgemoor Drain on the Somerset Levels.
The photo belongs to John Mills of Long Lawford (far right on the front row) who remembers that Dave Burr also won the individual title, with the help of one huge fish which helped their total.
The others are (back from left) Arthur Clarke and Norman Golding. Middle: Jimmy Clish, Harry Hirst, Hubert Noar, Dave Burr, John Kenney, Tony Ward and Ken Brown. Front: Gary Gallagher, Rob Bishop and John Mills.
