THIS picture was sent in by Jean Hallam, who used to work for Rugby Portland Cement in the 1960s. She wrote: “In light of the sad news regarding the demolition of Cemex, as I, and many other ex employees know the building as The Rugby Portland Cement, fond memories have flooded back whilst I was employed there during the middle sixties on the 5th floor in the Buying Department.
“We had some great social evenings at the Club House and I can honestly say whilst employed at RPC they were the happiest days of my working life. As employers, they were exceptionally good and looked after us all very well
“First thing in the morning upon entering the building there was always a warm happy welcome from the commissioner – Sarge, whom I remember with special fondness.”
