St Luke’s Hospital staff 1989
Looking through our 1989 papers I often read our old ‘Bouquet of the Week’ features, which many of you will remember. These enabled readers to nominate deserving recipients to receive a bouquet.
Working here then, I can’t tell you how many times the photographer and various reporters were on their way to present them when they had to turn back having forgotten to collect the flowers!
This one appeared in November that year, thanking nurses at St Luke’s Hospital in Lower Hillmorton Road for providing care beyond the call duty. It read: ‘Every day the four day-room nurses at St Luke’s tour the hospital’s wards to collect patients who want to watch television, play games and socialise. But the reason they won the Advertiser Bouquet of the Week was for the sherry and birthday cake they lay on for patients’ birthdays. Mrs G Bedding, whose mother-in-law stayed at St Luke’s earlier this year and who nominated the nurses said: “Patients and visitors are really made welcome. They feel at home here. Trips out at night for those able and fit enough to go are quite normal run-of-the-mill.” There are also regular concerts in the afternoon.’
