Sales mania in the 1940s: Looking Back, May 23 edition

Queues of shoppers eager to get their hands on bargains in the sales are nothing new.

Ignore the fashions, the vehicles and the shop fronts and this could be a scene from any high street or retail park just after Christmas, but n fact the picture was taken in Rugby during the Second World War – perhaps explaining the demand for cheaper clothes.
