THERE will be over 100 varieties of ale, ciders and perries to gulp down at the Merchants Inn’s latest royal-themed beer festival.

The Royale Rugby Beer Festival takes place from Monday 23 April to Sunday 29. The Little Church Street pub’s festivals are gaining a national reputation for being among the best in the country.

Scott Whyment, licensee, said: “Here at The Merchants Inn we are getting very well known throughout the country for our beer festivals. This is all down to the quality and number of the ales, the unique way we theme the beers and the pub along with great staff who have a good depth of product knowledge.”

For the week-long festival the pub will be transformed into a castle, where St George’s Day will fittingly be celebrated on Monday, the festival’s opening day. Live music throughout the week includes Dr Busker on Monday, Dukes Jetty on Tuesday and Peter Watkins Prince of Wales on Wednesday.

Throughout the festival the pub will be holding raffles, competitions and an auction in aid of its chosen charity, the Matt Hampson Foundation.
