Year 7 admissions for 2016 at Rugby Free Secondary School are now open, less than one week from the school being approved by the Department for Education.
Applications can be made directly to the school via its website in addition to other schools being applied for through the Local Authority process. This means that applicants may be offered two places, one from Rugby Free Secondary School and one through the Local Authority. Parents can then make their final choice once offers are made in March 2016.
Rugby Free Secondary School will be an 11-19 school and plans to open with an initial intake of 180 Year 7 pupils.
The school will grow to reach full capacity of 1,260 students in 2022. The Trust behind the school says it will help to address the current and accelerating need for high quality secondary school places in Rugby.
It will be the sister school of Rugby Free Primary School which opens today (Tuesday September 8).
Rugby Free Secondary School will be a ‘STEMM’ school with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and an additional focus on the study of Music.
A number of potential sites have already been identified for the school and the Department for Education and Education Funding Agency are now working to secure one of these as soon as possible.
Lead Proposer, Tom Legge, said: “Our team’s experience in successfully opening a number of free schools has enabled us to make a huge amount of progress less than one week after receiving the go ahead from the Department for Education; admissions are now open and applications are already coming in; recruitment for an inspiring Headteacher is under way and we are working with the Education Funding Agency to secure one of our site options as soon as possible.
“We would like to remind parents that applying to RFSS is an additional choice for 2016 only and we urge families to come and find out more about our vision for the school at one of our upcoming Open Events.”
Open events are being held at RFSS’s sister school, Rugby Free Primary, 1 Bailey Road, Rugby, from 6.30-8m on Wednesday September 23, Tuesday October 13 and Thursday October 22. Parents will be able to book a place online at www.rugbyfreesecondary.co.uk/events
