Proclamations will be posted during the weekend calling the first married groups to the Colours. Eight groups - 25 to 32 - are summoned in this call from April 7. The men affected are those between 19 and 26 years of age. It is understood that it is partly due to the improved War Office arrangements for handling recruits and partly owing to the large number of temporary exemptions which have been given recently. It is expected that all married men will be serving before the autumn.

All hairdressing services in Rugby have cost more since Wednesday. Men’s haircuts went up from 3s 6d to 4s and other services went up by 6d. There was an increase of 10 per cent - 2s in the pound - on all ladies’ hairdressing services.

The increases were agreed at a meeting of the Rugby branch of the Rugby branch of the National Hairdressers’ Federation last week attended by about 35 members. The increases are due to the general rise in costs of materials.

February 28, 1966

Borough residents will pay at least £427 for their poll tax services, councillors decided on Tuesday, a rise of 23.4 per cent on this year’s demand. But borough councillors have not spent as much as the Government would have allowed. Councillors are to complain about the county council’s spending plan and are refusing to meet any charges arising from poll-tax capping if the Government forces the county to draw up another budget.
