Alert Leamington man prevents crime

POLICE are asking people to follow the example of an alert person who called them after seeing suspicious activity in a Leamington road.

The man saw another man, who was wearing a red hooded top, trying to open the door of his car, on his driveway in Beverley Road at around 2.20am on Tuesday morning.

He shouted at the intruder, who then ran off towards Rugby Road, and then called the police. The car was not damaged.

Det Sgt Tony Power said: “These actions may have prevented a theft or burglary occurring. They could also deter a potential criminal from returning to the area as they know that the neighbours are vigilant.

“But we urge people to use their common sense and to put their own safety first if they find themselves in similar circumstances.”

Det Sgt Power said people should dial 999 if they believe a crime is taking place and 415000 or 101 if reporting a crime after the suspect has left he scene.

People can also provide information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Police are also encouraging communities to set up Neighbourhood Watch groups. To find out more about this, go online.
