Already more than 1,000 entries for Leamington’s Regency Run

More than 1,000 people signed up for the Wright Hassall-sponsored 10k run through Leamington in just nine days.

The event involves more than 2,000 runners following a course from Newbold Terrace East to Mill Gardens.

Race organiser Russell Hall, of Leamington Round Table, is pleased with the response to this year’s race and is looking forward to another big turnout.

He said: “It has been fantastic to receive so many entries so quickly and we have reached the 1,000 mark in half the time it took last year.

“The run has grown every year and I think a lot of that is down to the good reputation we have with both fun runners and serious athletes.

“It might seem a long way off at the moment but really it is just around the corner and I think we will reach our limit soon.”

The Round Table is working with the Warwickshire and Coventry-based grant making organisation Heart of England Community Foundation with the aim of adding to the £150,000 the event has already raised for good causes.

The race has been voted second in the Daily Telegraph’s Top Ten British 10k Runs and the best in the West Midlands by Runner’s World magazine.

Unita Evans, a Birmingham property surveyor, was the race’s 1,000th entrant.

She said: “I decided to enter because I am familiar with the route having run it twice before and I thought it would be a good opportunity to get fit while also raising money for good causes.

“I’ll either be raising money for Muscular Dystrophy or my employer’s chosen charity Help the Hospices.

“This has allowed me to coax a couple of colleagues into taking part so it should be good fun.”

The run takes place on Sunday April 10 from 9am.
