Archaeology dig unearths lasting love

A KENILWORTH archaeologist has struck gold by marrying the girl of his dreams after an Anglo Saxon dig led to love.

Dr Edward Oakley, 30 married fellow archaeologist Dr Imogen Tompsett, 32 at St Leonard’s Church in Hampshire - close to the excavation site where the couple met on the University dig 18 years ago.

The pair both graduated from Southampton University and went on to complete their masters degrees at Nottingham University where they were later awarded PhDs for their work on early medieval archaeology.

The former Kenilworth school pupil is the son of John Oakley, retired town solicitor, and his wife Jacky. Imogen is the daughter of Michael Tompsett, a partner in the Salisbury accountancy firm of Fletchers, and his wife Jill.
