Attack on 91-year-old Leamington man: police launch fresh appeal

The 91-year old was violently attacked at his home in Gordon Street on Monday September 16. He is now on a ventilator and is still in a critical condition.

Police are trying to trace a man who walked from Priory Terrace into Victoria Terrace a few minutes after midnight on the night of the attack. He used the Lloyds Bank cashpoint before walking back towards Priory Terrace.

Officers say this man is not in trouble.

Det Chief Insp James Essex, who is leading the investigation, said: “This man is not in any trouble, but due to him being where he was at the time he was, he may have valuable information which can help us. We urge him to come forward.”

He is described as being white, with a bald head and wearing a dark jacket which was unfastened.

Scott Melville, 38, from Leamington but of no fixed address, has been charged with burglary and causing grievous bodily harm. He appeared before magistrates in Leamington last Thursday (September 19), where he was remanded in custody to appear before Warwick Crown Court on a date yet to be set.
