A MAN was dragged from his car and set upon by a bunch of thugs in Cawston two weeks ago in an unprovoked attack.

The man, in his late 20s, who wishes to remain anonymous for his own safety, was followed by gang of youths down the Western Relief Road while on the way back from celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday on Monday September 3.

When, at around 10.45pm, he pulled up to drop a friend off, he was taken by surprise when a dark grey Peugeot 308 hatchback car appeared and three or four men hurriedly got out of the car.

They charged at the driver’s side of his car and jammed the door open while pummelling the victim’s face with punches. After the attack he was left bruised and battered in the middle of Whitefriars Drive in Cawston. They stole his keys but did not take his car.

He said: “The physical side of it I can take in my stride - it’s the psychological aspect I’m having trouble with.

“I haven’t driven since, I’m afraid to go out when it’s dark and days later my mind still feels hazy. I’m afraid to park my car outside my home in case they recognise it and so have had to hide it elsewhere in Rugby.

“Since they didn’t steal the car I can only think these guys were just out to cause trouble and saw me as an easy target. The attack was terrifying.”

He suffered severe cuts and bruising to his face and chipped and dislodged teeth. He spotted the car minutes earlier driving erratically and aggressively down the Western Relief Road.

He added: “The police who attended did a great job of calming me down and re-assuring me, but they have nothing to go on. It’s frustrating to think they will get away with it.”

The perpetrators are described as Asian men, possibly of Indian origin, in their late teens and early twenties. Anyone who saw anything suspicious around the Western Relief Road or in Cawston on the night of Monday September 3, is asked to contact Warwickshire Police on 101.
