Visit The Bear pub in Bilton and you’ll find out exactly why turnover has trebled since the current owners took over. Licensee Mark Turner said people should visit to discover the meaning of a true, community-spirited pub and a welcoming atmosphere.
He took over The Bear in Bilton Lane with his partner Becky in October.
The dynamic duo have never looked back and have turned the venue around.
Mark, who has 30 years of experience in the pub industry, said: “As part of our marketing strategy for this year, we will be lowering our beer prices.
“The idea is to give something back to our loyal customers who give us so much support.”
Pints could be reduced by as much as 10p from next month.
“It’s something we are very pleased to be doing,” added Mark.
Last year staff and punters helped raise more than £3,000 for charity.
“Helping local causes is something that is very important to us,” said Mark.
“We support several local charities and allow free use or our function rooms to help local causes.”
These include the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Myton Hospice and this year Zoe’s Place baby hospice.
Mark said: “We choose the charities we support by nominations.”
On top of the social side of the pub, which also includes pool teams and a golf society, there’s three types of lager, five types of real ale and all the usual ciders and bitters.
On the food menu, punters will discover all the traditional pub classics.
Mark said he is proud of his eight-strong team.
“We are a friendly team and I feel proud of what we have achieved,” added Mark.
“It’s great working here and we do it for the love of it. It’s more of a vocation.”
Debbie Bolton, who lives in the Rugby area, is a regular at The Bear.
She said “Since the pub has changed hands there has been a real change in the atmosphere.
“It’s a relaxed environment and everyone is really friendly.”
“I would recommend it to anyone,” added Debbie.
