A Rugby barber is celebrating after being crowned champion of the Midlands in a competition to find Britain’s best wet shaving barber.

Shakar Bakani, of Mojo barbershop in Church Street, beat off razor-sharp competition from 14 other talented barbers to claim the title at an event held at Sally’s Salon Services in Bristol on April 21.

It was a second triumph for Shakar, who was originally named Midlands King of the Wet Shaves back in 2014, returning this year to defend the title.

He impressed judges on a number of criteria, including shave preparation, razor technique, post-shave routine, health and safety and overall efficiency, with his score seeing him finish several points ahead of his opponents.

He will now progress on to the national final as one of only eight highest-scoring regional winners from across the UK to make the cut.

The final round is set to be held at the first ever Barber UK at the Birmingham NEC on May 10, with the UK’s top barbers coming face to face inside a boxing ring to put their skills to the ultimate test.
