In a statement published on the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service website, residents are advised about who they should contact in the event of flooding.

Many recent floods, like those seen in Rugby last Tuesday evening, resulted from drains being blocked or not being able to cope with the sheer volume of water coming down.

Anyone who notices a blockage related to a sewer should contact Severn Trent Water on 0800 783 4444.

However, if the blockage or flooding relates to a public drain, this is the responsibility of Warwickshire County Council and they should be contacted on 01926 410410.

Drivers are reminded not to drive through deep water and to find alternative routes where possible.

And residents are also advised that makeshift sandbags can be made using carrier bags filled with soil or bin bags filled with old clothes to stem water coming through doorways.
