Beautiful Coombe with a view

I couldn't think of a better way of spending my birthday than a night of luxury in a 12th century Cistercian abbey turned hotel.

With Christmas just around the corner, make time to visit Coombe Abbey and get away from all the festive stress – or treat your partner to the ultimate gift.

My partner and I stayed in the Capability Brown suite which is a large “feature” room with a huge four poster bed and amazing decor.

The room was fit for any king or queen, with a climb up a spiral staircase needed to reach the bathroom which has a free standing bath in the middle of the room.

So many fabulous touches too – slippers, chocolates, brandy and liquers left out for us by the friendly staff.

We indulged ourselves with a three course table d’hote dinner served in the mesmerising Garden Room restaurant that sparkles under candlelight. We enjoyed mouth-watering scallops, melt in the mouth steak and delicious duck with just the right amount of pink in the middle. Our meals were topped off with crisp white wine and cheese and biscuits.
