A MAN from Binley Woods has appeared in court charged with murder.
Twenty-seven-year-old David Raymond Simmonds, of Elm Close, is alleged to have murdered David Gower on June 26 last year and to have conspired with others to cause grievous bodily harm to Luigi Prota, between June 1 and 27.
The offences are said to have taken place in the village of Bulkington, near Nuneaton.
Crown prosecutor Fred Pilkington told Nuneaton magistrates yesterday (Tuesday) that eight other people had been charged in connection with the alleged incident.
“They have already entered not guilty pleas and the trial has been arranged for October.”
Mr Pilkington said arrangements had been made for Simmonds to appear before a judge at Warwick Crown Court, sitting at Leamington, today (Wednesday).
Simmonds, represented during the four-minute hearing at Warwickshire Justice Centre in Nuneaton by barrister Narita Bhara, spoke only to confirm his name, address and age.
He said he understood the charges against him.
Presiding magistrate Krishan Thaper told Simmonds: “You will be remanded in custody for a case management hearing tomorrow.”
