Small businesses play a vital part in our economy – but their voices can all too easily be drowned out by the big boys.

That’s why we’re celebrating the town’s best small company on the biggest night in Rugby’s business calendar.

Nominations are still open for the Rugby Business Excellence Awards, which take place on Friday June 7 at the Dunchurch Park Hotel.

And if you enter, you could be picking up one of the most sought-after accolades on the night.

The judges of the Small Business of the Year category are looking for the following:

1) An explanation of your product or service, with details of your sales and marketing campaigns and evidence of their success

2) How satisfied customers are with what you do, how successfully you retain them and how your competitors see you

3) What training programmes you provide for new and existing employees

4) Your goals for growth in the coming years and how you intend to achieve them.

The deadline for entries is May 17.

The category is sponsored by law firm Brethertons, which has offices in Rugby. Senior partner Richard Pell said: “Brethertons has been an established name in the Rugby community for over 200 years, and throughout that time much has changed. Now though, perhaps more than ever, it is of great importance to us to support small business start-up and prosperity in our town.

“Starting from its own humble beginnings, Brethertons is delighted to sponsor the Small Business of the Year category because we share the pride of the innovation, entrepreneurship and motivation that is necessary to succeed. We’ll be looking for businesses with a real demonstration of impeccable customer service with a strong competitive approach to business, and we are eager to reward the great work and initiative evident in small businesses around the town.”

Tickets are available for the ceremony for £40 plus VAT.
