BUSINESSES in the Rugby area are being offered a helping hand with their waste materials on a ‘pay-as-you-throw’ basis.

Two Warwickshire County Council-run recycling centres have opened their gates to traders and small businesses.

Materials such as soil, rubble, plasterboard and green waste can be deposited at Hunters Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre and also in Leamington.

Other items accepted include fridges and freezers, TVs and computer monitors, clean paper and cardboard, gas cylinders and general waste.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Communities, said: “This is a boon for local businesses looking for an affordable and environmentally-responsible disposal solution on their doorstep. It is ideal for small-scale projects, de-cluttering or a spring clear-out.”

Prices start from £2 for up to 100 kg of separated rubble or hardcore while unsorted general waste is £16.50 for up to 100kg.

Both sites are also offering their weighbridges for public weighing at £6 per visit.

Payments can be made by cash, credit or debit card with chip and PIN or on account.

Warwickshire County Council is looking to expand its trade waste service to other recycling centres in the county.
