The countdown has been under way for a while and yesterday, Thursday, evening saw the unveiling of the new-look George at the heart of Bilton.
The landmark, grade II listed building occupies a dominant position in the village but had been in the doldrums in recent years.
But after closing in mid-April, pub company Punch has carried out a £300,000 investment.
While the inside layout remains broadly familiar, the new look is totally different and has catapulted The George into a different league as a place to go not just for a drink but for a meal or a morning coffee.
MP Mark Pawsey went along to toast publican James Coulson and his team and sample one of the beers, which include Ubu from Purity, Sharp’s Doom Bar and Abbot Ale.
As well as the transformed interior there is also a large outdoor area running along the back of the pub but separated from the car park.
The menu also looks a class act, bringing something new to Bilton with a wide range of dishes on offer through the week and a special Sunday roast offer.
At a time when so many pubs are closing, The George has been given a new lease of life and looks set to be another main attraction for Bilton.
