Celebrating Warwick’s gardens

GARDENS around Warwick are planning to open themselves up to the public for a special weekend.

On July 9 and 10 visitors and residents can go and see the historic gardens which open regularly - Hill Close Gardens, the Master’s Garden at Lord Leycester Hospital and the Mill Garden.

But in addition to these there will be around 20 private gardens open free of charge, although donations will be gratefully received towards the Air Ambulance.

Trustee of Hill Close Gardens Margaret Begg said: “The private gardens vary hugely in size and style.

“In the town centre there will be hidden walled gardens opening to the public which are imaginatively designed and creatively planted.

“Along West Street three fine gardens will open behind the 15th century houses. The gardens in Bridge End offer beautiful views of the castle with styles varying from the more traditional to the modernistic.

“On the other side of the river near to Mill Garden the garden of the former home of the head gardener of the Castle will open. The whole town is participating.”

There will also be guided walks, from Market Place on both days and leaflets about the town’s trees.
