Charity volunteer will run Royal Parks Half Marathon

ACTION 21 volunteer and Warwick mother Alison Smith hates running – but she has set herself the goal of running 13 miles for charity.

The 33-year-old, who helps the Leamington-based charity with public relations and marketing, gave herself just 20 weeks to go from being a novice runner to taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London in October to raise funds for another charity, Practical Action, which works in international development.

She said: “I have always detested running, but I suddenly thought it would be nice to tackle a demon for a good cause.” She and her running partner Louise Bennett are hoping to raise £1,200.
