Despite extensive attempts to save the boy, an air ambulance doctor later pronounced him dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found a boy who was in cardiac arrest being given CPR by off-duty South Central ambulance staff. The boy had reportedly been in collision with a car.

“Crews and the doctor continued emergency treatment but sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the boy and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Police officers are asking any witnesses to the collision or who saw the child or the Ford Mondeo before the collision to contact Pc Wayne Knight or Sgt Richard Toms on 415415.
