Chris continues to fly flag for his friend Simon

MEMORIES of a brave fundrasing friend have spurred on a Napton man as he climbed a mountain in the Himalayas for charity.

Chris Line’s close friend Simon Adams died of motor neurone disease last year having raised £350,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

To carry on Mr Adams’ good work Mr Lines has taken on two major fundraising challenges - climbing Kilimanjaro last year and then last month trekking with his friend Jerry Ryan to Everest Base Camp for an attempt at 6.189 metre summit of the mountain called Island Peak.

Speaking before he embarked on the expedition Mr Line, a helicopter pilot who runs the Leicester-based firm Helicentre Aviation Ltd, said: “We just want to keep going and going and raising awareness until we reach Simon’s taregt of £1 million. We want to do something like this once a year next year we’re going to sail the Atlantic.

“I’m carrying a flag with Simon’s face on it for this challenge, he was a good friend of mine and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.”

At present people have donated a total of £1,500 to the cause on Mr Lines’ Justgiving webpage.

Mr Adams was posthumously presented with the Justgiving Charity Award last year.

After being diagnosed with motor neurone disease in October 2009 and told he would have between six months and three years to live, Mr Adams created a ‘bucket list’ of wishes on which the most important item was to raise £1 million for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Mr Adams managed to complete half of the list, visiting Ayers Rock in Australia, travelling to South Africa, swimming with sharks and skiing at the Val d’Isere resort in France.

He also met saome of his sporting heroes during his awareness and fundraising campaign including England cricket captain Andrew Strauss, alpine ski racer Chemmy Alcott and legendary England fly-half Johnny Wilkinson.
