A CHRISTMAS concert will mark the first big event at a newly restored village church, just a year after it was badly damaged by a fire.

All Saints’ Church in Birdingbury Road, Leamington Hastings was targeted in a suspected arson attack at the end of November last year,

Following a year of restoration the work on the church is now complete and the congregation has already attended a celebratory service to mark the occasion. A spokesman for the church said: “The restoration work is complete and the church handed back to us in a pristine condition.

“It has been an amazing effort to get All Saints’ Church restored after such devastation in just one year and five days! I’m delighted to say that we were able to have a celebratory service there. It looks great.

“The stonework is so clean, the windows mended, the marble plaques sparkling and the pews free of soot.

“Much of the floor has been relaid, a new kitchen installed and the bells will soon be ringing again.”

On Saturday at 7pm, Armonico Consort will deliver a traditional concert of carols and readings culminating with Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols at All Saints’, which will be decorated for Christmas.

Mulled wine and Ecclefechan tarts will be served in the interval.

Armonico Consort has risen quickly to fame performing regularly at many major festivals in the UK, and at venues across the world.

In November the Times awarded five stars for its concert at the Cadogan Hall London.
