Staff at The Co-operative Funeralcare in Rugby are preparing to immerse their sponges in soap suds to help raise funds for The Myton Hospices.
This will be the fifth consecutive year the team at the Bilton Road funeral home, operated by the Heart of England Co-operative Society, has organised a charity car wash.
Over the past four years the car wash has gone on to raise a total of £1,800. It is regularly supported by people who bring more than one car as well as those who take advantage of the bacon butties, hot dogs, cakes and refreshments on sale.
Peter Pickering, Funeral Service Manager, said: “This really is a popular event which is as much social as anything. In many cases we see familiar faces turning up year after year as well as some new ones and there are many who, satisfied with their gleaming motor, pop home, swap it over and come back to us with a second or even third car. We really do get some fantastic support.
“Usually we sell cakes, food and drinks to motorists while they wait and this always proves a resounding success. We get so many people donating fantastic home-made cakes which helps us to raise even more money.”
He added: “The car wash has grown into a great social event with lots of people really helping to support us throughout the day. We have a team of 15 here at Rugby but by the end of the day there have probably been more than twice as many lending a hand. It’s great as it all helps us to raise even more funds for Myton.”
The car wash will take place at The Co-operative Funeralcare on Saturday, September 19, from 10am to 2pm.
