Cold weather affects bin collections

HOUSEHOLDERS whose rubbish has not been collected because of snow have been asked to leave bins out until they can be collected - but green compost bins will not be collected until the cold weather has eased.

Warwick district councillor Dave Shilton, who is responsible for refuse collection, told a meeting of the council on Wednesday evening that rubbish trucks were unable to drive down only five or six streets in the area because of ice, but that checks were being made daily so collections could be resumed.

He explained green wheelie bins containing garden waste and some food waste could not currently be collected as the two were freezing together because of the cold weather.

Cllr Shilton said red recycling box collections and services to houses without wheelie bins had been unaffected and were collected as usual.

He added that district council staff would be gritting icy pavements in the Parade in Leamington and other town centres if snow and ice worsened.
