Community groups are being urged to apply for recycled computers from the county council.

For the first time, the council is able to offer laptops as well as desktop PCs.

A total of 20 Toshiba laptops and five Dell Optiplex desktops are available to community groups in each of the county’s five districts and boroughs, 125 machines in total.

Each machine has at least 80Gb hard drive and will have basic starter software and virus protection as well as a three month warranty. Desktop machines will come with a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Applications for up to two computers are accepted from all locally-based community or volunteer groups, as well as town and parish councils. They should be in by 5pm on November 1.

Cllr Colin Hayfield, portfolio holder for customers said: “These groups do a huge amount to help us to achieve our aims for communities. We are only too pleased to be able to make a contribution that will help them do their work.”
