A PUB garden on a Rugby estate has been given a makeover thanks to a community project.

Hillside and Rokeby Community Association organised a Big Dig at the Griffin in Kingsway to transform the open space.

Landlord and lady Simon and Sara Prendergast provided hand built planters, lots of plants, refreshments and a barbecue, while Rugby Borough Council donated ten trees. The community association also donated £150 towards plants.

Kerry Laurie, chairman of the Hillside and Rokeby Community Association, said: “Residents, friends and regulars of the Griffin worked hard on the day and the results were amazing. We hope we have helped to create a warm welcoming garden where people can relax and enjoy a drink in the summer sunshine.

“Thanks to all those who donated and helped and to Rugby fire brigade who were called to water the plants as we didn’t have a long enough hose.”
