WARWICKSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is the second best authority in the country for the number of fires in people’s homes, according to new figures.

Other key achievements outlined in the mid-term review of its Integrated Risk Management Plan include rescuing 15 people trapped in house fires, a 50 per cent decrease in automatic fire alarm calls and a reduction in the number of fires in non-domestic properties by 52 per cent since 2005/06.

The service has also exceeded its target of delivering 10,000 home fire safety checks to residents in Warwickshire in 2010/11.

Warwickshire’s Chief Fire Officer Graeme Smith said: “I hope that residents will be pleased with this success and will be able to see how the service is moving forward, ensuring that we are better equipped to handle wider emergency situations.”
