Driver crashed after hitting three times the speed limit while trying to get away from Rugby Police

A driver did three times the speed limit in an effort to get away from Rugby Police before they crashing and being arrested.

On the night of December 26 - 27, officers from Rugby were helping to patrol the north of Warwickshire.

They spotted an Audi A3 and attempted to stop it - but the driver failed to stop and a chase ensued.

At points, the driver reached three times the speed limit as they attempted to get away.

The chase ended when the driver crashed - none of the three occupants of the car suffered any injuries.

A police car present at the incident appeared to have suffered minor damage to its front bumper.

Officers discovered the Audi was being driven on false plates and all three occupants were arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.

The driver was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

As of December 27, all three remain in custody while police make enquiries.
