On December 4 police officers on patrol in Rugby attempted to stop a black VW Golf on Corporation Street.

The driver failed to stop - so the police began to chase him.

He forced his way through traffic, drove through a red light and then smashed into a car an innocent member of the public - causing damage to both cars.

The driver of the Golf continued for some time, before abandoning the car in the Overslade area.

Police arrested the driver as he tried to run away.

The Golf was found nearby and was seized.

Farouq Semakula has since been charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.

He has been bailed to appear at court in around two weeks.

A spokesperson for Rugby Police said: "It's never good when innocent people are caught up in these incidents but we are pleased that no one was seriously injured and the person responsible will be in court to answer for their actions."
