A driver led police on a high-speed chase after they allegedly stole make-up from a shop in Rugby.

The Operational Patrol Unit for Warwickshire (known as OPU), posted about the incident on their social media.

The incident happened on Thursday (January 21) when officers attempted to stop the driver who was believed to have shoplifted make-up from Boots at the Junction One Retail Park.

A chase ensued which led to police using a stinger on the A45 to stop the vehicle.

A spokeperson from OPU Warwickshire said: "Earlier this afternoon this cloned Toyota on false number plates came into Rugby and committed a bulk shoplifting of Makeup at Boots on the Junction One Retail Park.

"Response officers from Rugby attempted to stop the vehicle which failed to stop and made off at speed onto the A45.

"We attended In support and successfully deployed a stinger device across the A45 taking out the two front tyres of the Toyota.

"The driver was unable to continue and pulled over to a stop.

"We arrested four persons from the vehicle on suspicion of Shoplifting.

"The driver was also arrested for driving offences. We recovered the make-up which will be returned to Boots.

"We recovered a small lock knife. Vehicle also seized and taken off the road."
