A man was tasered by police after the car he was driving flipped onto its roof on the M6 southbound this afternoon (Monday).

Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit tweeted to say the man absconded from the scene but was later located by officers who deployed a taser for the man’s own protection.

A police spokesperson said: ”Warwickshire Police received a call at around 12pm today to reports of a single vehicle collision upon the M6 southbound between junction 2 and 1.

“The incident involved a Ford KA, in which the driver received minor injuries.

“Concerns were raised for the driver’s safety following threats he made to himself and others, therefore a taser was deployed by officers for his own protection.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment following injuries received in the collision. No arrests have been made in connection with this incident at this time.”

The southbound carriageway was closed for a short period of time to allow Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service to deal with the overturned vehicle.

All lanes are now open and traffic is returning to normal.
