Jail for Rugby drug dealer who fled from police on an electric scooter

A 19-year-old Rugby drug dealer's attempt to evade the law with his electric scooter failed when we was jailed for more than three years earlier this month.

Callum Davies of Marlborough Road appeared at Warwick Crown Court on July 2, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of supplying class A drugs.

The Court heard that a first arrest was made on March 23 when officers searched a flat in Deepmore Road, Rugby.

Police seized heroin and crack cocaine, along with weighing scales, cash and a mobile phone.

Davies was interviewed at Leamington Police Station and released under investigation while enquires continued.

Then, on March 31, officers from Proactive CID on patrol in Rugby spotted Davies acting suspiciously outside a property in Victoria Street.

A short while later he was seen on an electric scooter and when officers tried to stop him he made off.

Officers saw him dump a package which was later found to contain three wraps of Class A drugs.

Police returned to the house on Victoria Street later and arrested Davies and a woman who was also at the scene.

Bulk quantities of drugs and a mobile phone were seized when a search of this property was conducted.

Davies appeared in Court on July 2 and was given a custodial sentence of three years and two months, which included the activation of a previous suspended sentence.

Detective Sergeant Alan Gardner said “The conviction and sentence of Davies has resulted from the persistence of Rugby Proactive CID, engagement with local authorities and intelligence from the community.

“Those involved in drugs offences in Rugby will be continually targeted by the police.

“The community can be reassured that information and intelligence is assessed daily to link and target those involved in criminality.
