Man gets addition to his prison sentence after attacking four staff at prison near Rugby

A thug bit and punched four members of prison staff when they tried to move him to a new wing of HMP Onley.

Benjamin Redman, of Tylers Gate, Harrow, is already being held at prison on the Northamptonshire / Warwickshire boarder for an unspecified period.

But he was brought back to Northampton Crown Court yesterday (May 11) for an attack in July 2019 when staff at the jail attempted to move the 34-year-old prisoner to a different wing.

He responded by lashing out with a barrage of punches. When officers tried to restrain him, he bit one of them on the back of the hand to loosen their grip, assaulted them and carried on with the attack.

The senseless beating against the prison staff who were only trying to do their job was labelled as "undeserved" at Northampton Crown Court yesterday.

The 34-year-old was told he will spend another eight months in prison on top of his existing sentence.

The Harrow man has been previously jailed for a string of robberies and was arrested in late 2020 after he failed to attend court to answer a charge of alleged criminal damage for reportedly defecating in an Essex holding cell.
