Man punched in gang fight

POLICE are examining CCTV footage following a series of incidents in Rugby which led to a man needing hospital treatment.

They involve a male in his 40s who was with his girlfriend and a small group of males and females at around 9pm on Monday evening.

The couple went into Caldecott Park off Park Road, Rugby where they got into a verbal altercation with a group.

Both groups then went their separate ways.

At approximately 9.10pm the couple left the park at the entrance opposite Premier Stores in Park Road. Outside the store there was another altercation with the same group.

One of the males in the group grabbed the man’s chest before punching him to the face.

A scuffle then took place and the man was punched again before falling to the floor resulting in a fractured ankle.

He also suffered a nose bleed. The group are then believed to have left towards Wood Street.

The male was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire where he was detained overnight for treatment.
