"These doorstep callers offer small household products for sale which may be of poor quality, at inflated prices, and pressure homeowners in to buying.

"The scam is believed to have originated in Nottingham, hence the name. The callers are often ex-convicts who claim to be part of a rehabilitation scheme which probably doesn't exist.

"Please warn your neighbours, particularly elderly or vulnerable neighbours, not to open the door to strangers or to buy on the doorstep.

"Best advice is don’t open the door. If you do please make it very clear you are not interested in purchasing anything.

"Also call 101 or report it via our web chat."
