A large amount of cash was stolen from a home in Newbold Road while the elderly residents were in the back garden.

Thieves got into the house through an insecure door and stole the cash which was being stored in a drawer in an upstairs room.

Ian King, crime prevention design advisor, said: “There are many reasons why people choose to store large amounts of cash in their homes and not deposit it in a bank. With some elderly people they simply do not trust the banks to look after their money and believe it will be safer at home. If cash is stored at home it should be kept in a safe which secured to a wall or even better, a floor safe.”

Warwickshire Police also reminded people to lock windows and doors.
