Pupils in Rugby are being urged to stay alert after a man in a white van approached a schoolgirl.

Local schools have reported three suspicious incidents this month but Warwickshire Police said they can only confirm one of the reports - and one of the incidents has been dismissed.

A schoolgirl reported yesterday (May 25) that a man in a white man approached her in Longrood Road at about 1-1.30pm and offered her a lift home.

Police said local officers are aware of the incident and are investigating the matter.

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting incident number Incident 205.

A second incident reported to the police on May 19 of a man in a white van 'acting suspiciously' near a school in Rugby has been dismissed by officers, who said: "Enquiries suggest the man was known to one of the pupils at the school. No offences have been recorded at this time."

Another report on May 7 from a local school suggests that a boy was approached by a man in a car in Hillmorton Road, who offered him sweets and asked him to get into the car.

The school said that the boy went into the nearest building and reported to a member of staff.

Police were today (Wednesday) unable to confirm this third incident but are looking into it.
